ONLOOKERS recoiled in horror when activists branded themselves with hot irons in public.
Members of the extremist 269Life group used the shock tactic at an animal rights march in Tel Aviv, Israel.
The barbaric tactic – in which activists brand each other like cattle – caused families to flee and shield their children.
One said: “Why do they do this to themselves?
“All they have achieved is to mutilate themselves and upset a lot of families and children.”
PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk made a speech at the rally which was attended by Vegan Friendly, Anonymous for Animal Rights and Let the Animals Live.
Organisers claimed 30,000 people attended the march though the figures were not officially verified.
