PETA kills “rescued” lobsters by putting them in fresh water, it is claimed.
Animal rights activists PETA has been accused of killing lobsters after bungling a “rescue” operation.
Online claims say PETA released them into fresh water rather than salt water and it proved fatal.
The botched rescue mission happened in a Nebraska restaurant, according to online posts.
One Facebook page read: “PETA came to Nebraska and bought a bunch of our live lobsters and freed them into the Missouri River.
The Missouri River is fresh water.
Lobsters are salt water.
Yeah, they died.
Thanks PETA.”
The Facebook post didn’t give any more details.
PETA were contacted via Twitter to comment but failed to respond.
Lobsters are in fact unable to survive in freshwater.
It would not be the first time PETA was responsible for lobster deaths.
The group killed Larry a 15-pound, 100-year-old lobster after rescuing it from from a Florida restaurant in 2016.
They had planned to deliver Larry to an aquarium in Maine but it died in the back of a truck after delays meant the journey took a week instead a day.
