ANIMAL rights activists terrified children after dressing up as evil clowns.
Shocked bystanders shielded their children from the “spooky” Peta protestors who were promoting veganism.
The were dressed as the evil clown Pennywise, made famous in a horror film called IT, in which he terrorises children.
One bystander said: “They weren’t funny clowns, they were scary clowns and some kids were upset.
“I don’t know what they were thinking.”
The demonstration in Makati City, Philippines, also backfired badly across social media.
Twitter user Antonia said: “We should raise against all PETA activists… Pennywise is a bit too much really.”
Peta admitted it had tried to shock.
A spokesperson said: “The idea to dress up as clowns was inspired by the hit movie, “It,” which features Pennywise, a scary clown terrorising a group of children.”
PETA has resorted to various strategies for promoting veganism and animal rights before, including controversial campaigns that involve naked stunts and racist campaigns.
